Joyatri recommends Exporting Philanthropy

Me_and_dogVSPCA_Lavanya1.jpgIn response to her blog entry about philanthropy, I dashed off a quick note to Mary Martin of Animal Person. Much to my surprise, she quoted me in her next blog post. My suggestion was that folks might want to donate money to organizations outside the U.S. as a way to get more "bang for their buck." It costs about 10 bucks to spay a female dog in India. I don't know what the price is in the U.S., but it sure as heck ain't $10. As I describe on my about me page, for the small amount of money that I am able to raise (I wish it were more, hint, hint), I like the idea that I can help more animals than I could if I were to donate that same amount of money to a U.S. organiztion.

Read her Exporting Philanthropy blog entry. And keep checking her blog. She does an amazing job of picking apart the lame rhetoric of un-animal-friendly persons.

Photo: These dogs at VSPCA in India don't want my money, they just want attention.
