Kalamkari and ikat dupatta

Stole or dupatta, 35 1/2 x 88 in. kalamkari with ikat border, cotton.

This large rectangle of cotton can be used as a wrap or sarong. The central ground is block-printed and resist-dyed (wax is applied with a pen, or kalam, hence kalamkari or penwork). The border is woven in the ikat technique, whereby bundles of threads are tied with dye-resistant material and dyed before weaving.
